How Dev Anand became a Favorite among Indian Audience

Popularly referred to as the evergreen Bollywood star, Dev Anand appealed to the audience with his charismatic performances. Not only was he a master in acting, but he was also experienced in film production and direction. A native of Gurdaspur, he has two famous directors Vijay Anand and Chetan Anand as his siblings. Mother of the popular international film maker Shekar Kapur, Sheel Kanta Kapur, is his sister.
Indian Govt honored him with Dadasaheb Phalke Award and Padma Bhushan keeping in mind his passion for films, enthusiasm in film making and immense contribution towards it. Before being given the the opportunity to play a character on screen, he worked at the military office. Hum Ek Hain was his debut movie. But, Ziddi was the 1st movie, which was successful at the box office. He was paired opposite to Kamini Kaushal in this movie, which was a hit. Following the success of his movie, Dev Anand established Navketan, which was his own film producing company, in 1949.
Choosing Guru Dutt, to direct his film Baazi, was a right decision, as the film became a great success. Taxi Driver, released in the year 1952, was a blockbuster. Kalpana Kartik, who was paired with Dev Anand in this film, became his life partner.
He became popular with fans with his special nods and unparalleled way of saying his dialogues. His career started flourishing in the 1950's with films like Insaniyat and Kala Pani. Dev Anand was honored as the Best Actor for the character in the movie Kala Pani. 6 movies among others, in which he acted with Suraiya, were commercially successful.
He was paired with Waheeda Rehman in the movie Guide, which was his debut color movie. The story of this movie is an adaptation of a novel written by R K Narayan, noted writer. Dev Anand got critical acclaim for this film because he portrayed a character who moves through various emotions like greed, romance, humor and salvation.
He joined again with Vijay Anand to produce Jewel Thief, which consisted of the charming, talented and glamorous ladies like Tanuja, Vyjanthimala, Faryal, Helen and Anju Mahendru, who reined the industry. Their second collaborative venture, Johnny Mera Naam, was also a huge success. Hare Rama Hare Krishna, which saw Zeenat Aman, a stunning actress, was his first film as a director. One more actress who was introduced by him was Tina Munim.
