Ninjutsu - The Ninja Practiced Mixed Martial Arts Long Before MMA Was Cool!

By: Jeffrey M. Miller | May 27 2010 | 313 words | 1651 hits

Are you interested in mixed martial arts training? Do you like the idea of cross-training in different disciplines and skills so that you're not limited to just punching and kicking or just grappling? Well, you're not alone.

In fact, this has been the decade of mixed martial arts.

Unfortunately, MMA fighters have been literally trying to re-invent the wheel!

Enter the world of ninjutsu - the art of the ninja.

Unlike karate, judo, and a host of other martial systems, ninjutsu, or ninpo as it's known it's higher, life empowering form, is a composite martial art. What that means is that ninjutsu is made up of many combat systems and specialty skills which all come together to create one of the most unique combat systems ever developed.

And, unlike these modern attempts at mixing systems, ninjutsu uses a unified and consistent set of principles and concepts, regardless of whether we're talking about striking, grappling, using the katana, or defensive combat handgun!

The ninja doesn't try to switch from boxing principles to grappling and ground-fighting - which always sends clues to the opponent - but rather mixes the two together, always. A punch easily transforms into an elbow strike which sets up for the choking technique. Or, the defensive shift to avoid and counterstrike an incoming punching arm allows the ninja to secretly grab a pen from his pocket which will be used to change the attacker's world!

It's commendable as to what mixed martial artists have done to fill in the gaps that they perceive to exist in the more conventional martial arts of our time. So much so that mma fighting has become "cool" and the "in" thing.

Unfortunately, the Ninja have over a thousand years of training, development, and refinement in doing what modern mma fighters have only scratched the surface of. And, the truth of the matter is that we ninja...

...were mixed martial artists LONG before mma was "cool!"
