Dory Boat Plans - The Easiest Boats to Build

If you would love to build your own boat then there is nothing better to start off with then a dory boat. These boats are very easy to build and have a very big heritage as well.

The first dories where used in the early 1800s in New England. The dory is a world renowned boat for its seaworthiness and it is one of the best fishing boats that you can get. It was used as the main fishing boat for both inshore and offshore fishing from the 19th century until well into the middle of the 20th century, simply because they were very easy to manufacture and transport to the fishing spot.

In general a dory should not take you more then 1-2 days of build time depending on how much time you have on your hands and what's your skill level when it comes to using wood and/or plywood. The whole thing is very cheap and it should save you a couple hundred bucks if you build it yourself. Another plus of the dory is that, tho it is a fairly small boat it can still hold 2-4 adults depending on the exact model that you wish to build.

Speaking of model, as easy as these boats are to build if you don't have a detailed step by step dory boat plan you will find yourself hitting a wall from time to time or missing a joint somewhere. A lot of the plans that are out there on the internet for free only provide you some very basic pictures and very basic or none at all instructions.
