The House of Parliament and Big Ben are two historic structures that are located in London and have become world wide icons. Known as the Palace of Westminster, it lies on the banks of the River Thames.

The impressive palace structure contains around 1,100 rooms and 100 staircases and an impressively large figure of 4.8 kilometres of corridors. The site where the Palace has always been of strategic importance ever since the Middle Ages as it was located on the River Thames.

The interior of Westminster Palace today features exuberant interiors and that are always well maintained to match the title of the building. Besides its interiors the Palace is also an impressive sight from the exterior and at night when it is illuminated in a yellow hue, it is a sight for sore eyes upon the lake. Visitors are also more than welcome to attend a debate or meeting at the House of Parliament.

Another important part of the Palace is the world famous Big Ben. Though for most the tower is what is known as Big Ben, in actuality it is not the tower but the impressive and grand 13 tonne bell that is located on the inside that holds the nickname. Depicted in various media and being the most popular sign of the United Kingdom, this proud symbol continues to stand tall and proud, eternally carrying its time keeping duties.

A stack of coins is used to regulate the timing keeping of the clock. The weight is changed to create subtle weight and balance changes in the mechanism that over time gradually shift the time of the clock. The tower is however unfortunately not open for public visitation except for those who have obtained special passes.

When visiting London, visitors should definitely not miss this grand iconic structure. Staying in one of one of the London hotels that is located close to this destinations such as Langham hotel London provides guests with convenient access to this destination.
